Ladies
and Gentleman, observe, if you will, limerick. Although I'm not particularly
fond of poetry, I quite like this short, humorous, one might say epigrammatic
artistic expression. Named after a town and county in Ireland, from where
it probably derives its origin, limerick is mostly indecent or even lewd,
but very intelligently versed and worded artistic form. The rhyme is a-a-b-b-a,
and all that makes limericks very witty and entertaining. A few limericks
about limericks for starters:
The
limerick packs laughs anatomical
Into
space that is quite economical.
But
the good ones I've seen
So
seldom are clean -
And
the clean ones so seldom are comical.
The
limerick's an art form complex
Whose
contents run chiefly to sex;
It's
famous for virgins
And
masculine urgin’s,
And
vulgar erotic effects.
The
limerick, peculiar to English,
Is
a verse that's hard to extinguish.
Once
Congress in session
Decreed
its suppression
But people got around
it by writing the
last line without any rhyme or meter.
God's
plan made a hopeful beginning
But
man spoiled his chances by sinning.
We
trust that the story
Will
end in God's glory -
But
at present the other side's winning.
As
one can notice, sometimes everything doesn't rhyme perfectly in order to
achieve better humorous effect. And now I'll let you enjoy lewd rhymes
of limericks (bearing in mind that I'll be very grateful for any contribution
to my collection by a kind reader. You are of course free too jump
to any part of my collection, or visit some limks (limerick links).
